HN-Zyme Prime is our original digestive formula for carbs and fats, containing a blend of 12 enzymes. While not as potent for proteins as Peptizyde, this formula excels for carbohydrate digestion. Contains papain and bromelain for proteins, lactase for dairy lactose, and amylase and other carbohydrases for better starch digestion. Reduces bloating and gas caused by beans, broccoli, etc. Has lipase to help aid in digestion of triglyceride fats. Tends to firm stools. HN-Zyme Prime may be used as a companion product to Peptizyde (or AFP-Peptizyde), as it is designed to help with carbohydrates, starches, sugars, and fats. Recognizing that many would want to use just one product, some proteases (enzymes for proteins), notably bromelain and papain, were added. This made HN-Zyme Prime very close to a "multi-enzyme" product, though considered lower in proteases.

HN-Zyme Prime contains CereCalase?, a proprietary enzyme blend of hemicellulase, beta-glucanase, and phytase, to help solubilize plant fiber and reduce phytic acid. Phytic acid can bind up important minerals and proteins, thus reducing their availability to be used by the body.

Galactosidase is useful in breaking down hard-to-digest carbohydrates found in legumes, and helps reduce gas produced from their fermentation in the intestine.

Amylase and glucoamylase are used together to hydrolyze starchy compounds into simple sugars.

Lipase is present to hydrolyze triglycerides to short-chain fatty acids.

These enzymes are derived from plant-based sources. HN-Zyme Prime is an excellent companion supplement to PeptizydeTM. The combination of both products provides digestive help for all the basic food groups: proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.

HN-Zyme Prime is helpful in easing the gas production, bloating, and cramping from such dietary problems as lactose and fatty food intolerance. Parents report digestive improvements such as firmer and more formed stools. Some improvement in tolerating phenolic foods was noted. HN-Zyme Prime was observed to often increase weight gain in children who were under-sized, possibly through increasing bioavailability of food nutrients.

This product may not appropriate for those with known allergies to Aspergillus enzyme proteins, though non-specific mold allergies do not necessarily preclude use of fungal enzymes. Consult your medical doctor for further advice, and err on the side of caution. Those with known anaphylactic allergic reactions to fungal proteins should NOT ingest fungal-derived enzymes.

Contains Rice Bran as filler. HN-Zyme Prime is free of gluten, casein, soy, MSG, salicylates, sugar, and artificial colors.

No upper limit has been established for oral enzyme supplementation. Animal studies indicate that extremely large doses of enzymes may be ingested without toxicity or ill effect. Most report HN-Zyme Prime dosing of from 1 to 4 capsules per meal. Dosing is based on the amount of food ingested during a meal, not by body weight or age. Feel free to vary the dosage of HN-Zyme Prime based on content and size of meal. Those meals higher in carbohydrates and/or fats may call for higher doses of HN-Zyme Prime. For reasons of practicality, no more than 5 capsules need be taken at one time.

Which product is best, HN-Zyme Prime, Zyme Prime or ZyCarb?

  • There is no one "best" product for all. Choose the product based on your individual needs based on product description. For example, if constipation is a problem, choose ZyCarb over Zyme Prime.

Will taking oral enzymes cause my pancreas to stop making enzymes?

  • No. Studies have shown little or no effect of oral enzymes on pancreatic enzyme production. The pancreas enzyme production is not regulated by a feedback system, and has no way of determining whether you are taking oral enzymes.

Can I take Zyme Prime products with my medications?

  • Yes. HN-Zyme Prime, Zyme Prime and ZyCarb can be taken with other supplements and medications. One should use caution with cellulase-containing products with sustained-release products. While no incidents have been reported, in theory, cellulase may affect a cellulose-regulated release mechanism.

What is the dosing for Zyme Prime, HN-Zyme Prime and ZyCarb?

  • No one dose is suitable for all. Dosing is not calculated based on age or body weight, but by how much is eaten in any one meal. Large meals or meals with foods that may not be well-tolerated, may require higher levels of enzyme. No toxicity occurs at any dosing level for enzymes so you can take many with no worry of side effects. We encourage some experimentation to find the amount that works best for you. 1 or 2 capsules per meal seems to be fine for most, however.
