Zyme Prime is a modified HN-Zyme Prime formula. The bromelain and papain were removed to enhance tolerability for the latex-sensitive. One of the two fungal-derived proteases was kept in the formula to help with proteins present in starches. Extra lactase and alpha-galactosidase were added since there was now more room in the capsule. We also used a cellulose filler with Zyme Prime, whereas we used rice bran in our previous formulas.

Zyme Prime is a combination of 9 enzyme blends in high concentration. These enzymes are effective in enhancing the breakdown of complex carbohydrates, triglyceride fats, starches, and proteins. While not as potent in protein hydrolysis as AFP-Peptizyde, Zyme Prime excels at carbohydrate hydrolysis. This results in less bloating and gas production, as well as helping certain food problems such as lactose intolerance.

Zyme Prime is helpful in easing the gas production, bloating, and cramping from such dietary problems as lactose and fatty food intolerance. Parents report digestive improvements such as firmer and more formed stools. Some improvement in tolerating phenolic foods was noted. Zyme Prime was observed to often increase weight gain in children who were under-sized, possibly through increasing bioavailability of food nutrients.

Contraindications for Enzyme Supplementation

These enzymes should be used with care in cases of active stomach or duodenal ulcers, severe bowel inflammation (characterized by blood in stools), hemophilia and other bleeding disorders, or within a week of scheduled surgery. This product may not be appropriate for those with known allergies to Aspergillus enzyme proteins, though non-specific mold allergies do not necessarily preclude use of fungal enzymes. Consult your medical doctor for further advice, and err on the side of caution. Those with known anaphylactic allergic reactions to fungal proteins should NOT ingest fungal-derived enzymes.

Zyme Prime

No upper limit has been established for oral enzyme supplementation. Animal studies indicate that extremely large doses of enzymes may be ingested without toxicity or ill effect. Most report Zyme Prime dosing of from 1 to 4 capsules per meal. Dosing is based on the amount of food ingested during a meal, not by body weight or age. Feel free to vary the dosage of Zyme Prime based on content and size of meal. Those meals higher in carbohydrates and/or fats may call for higher doses of Zyme Prime. For reasons of practicality, no more than 5 capsules need be taken at one time, with no more than 9 capsules taken consistently in any 24-hour period.

Zyme Prime Chewables

As a dietary supplement, chew 1 - 2 tablets with meals or snacks. More may be taken if needed for large meals. Dosing is not by age or body weight, but by how much food is eaten. Note that it takes 2 chewable tablets to equal the potency of 1 Zyme Prime capsule.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light and humid conditions. Do not refrigerate, keep at room temperature. Cold does not harm the enzymes, but most refrigerators are high-humidity environments. Freezing is acceptable and encouraged for long-term storage. CereCalasetm is a trademark of National Enzyme Company and is a blend of hemicellulase, glucanase, and phytase enzymes.

Which product is best, Zyme Prime or ZyCarb?

  • There is no one "best" product for all. Choose the product based on your individual needs based on product description. For example, if constipation is a problem, choose ZyCarb over Zyme Prime.

Will taking oral enzymes cause my pancreas to stop making enzymes?

  • No. Studies have shown little or no effect of oral enzymes on pancreatic enzyme production. The pancreas enzyme production is not regulated by a feedback system, and has no way of determining whether you are taking oral enzymes.

Can I take Zyme Prime products with my medications?

  • Yes.  Zyme Prime and ZyCarb can be taken with other supplements and medications. One should use caution with cellulase-containing products with sustained-release products. While no incidents have been reported, in theory, cellulase may affect a cellulose-regulated release mechanism.

What is the dosing for Zyme Prime and ZyCarb?

  • No one dose is suitable for all. Dosing is not calculated based on age or body weight, but by how much is eaten in any one meal. Large meals or meals with foods that may not be well-tolerated, may require higher levels of enzyme. No toxicity occurs at any dosing level for enzymes so you can take many with no worry of side effects. We encourage some experimentation to find the amount that works best for you. 1 or 2 capsules per meal seems to be fine for most, however.
